BWI Live: Should the Penn State White Out Get Protected Status like Ohio State vs. Michigan?
Penn State head coach James Franklin made headlines earlier this week when he discussed the White Out game and its fate in the new television landscape. Franklin first shared in an exclusive interview with Nate Bauer of Blue White Illustrated. On today’s BWI Live Show, we will discuss that conversation with Bauer and get feedback from you, the fans, in the live chat.
Join the show every Monday through Thursday at 10 a.m. on YouTube or catch the replay embedded in this article. As a programming note, we won’t have a live show tomorrow, but will be back on Thursday with a jam-packed recruiting show.
Fitz’s Recruiting Update
But recruiting news dominates June so we don’t get far from the topic of Penn State’s efforts to land the next round of Nittany Lions. Publisher and Sean Fitz gives fans a recap from the last weekend in Penn State recruiting. It was a busy week with both good and bad news in the Class of 2025.
On today’s rundown
- Penn State lands a commitment from California cornerback Daryus Disxon and makes headway with several other prospects at official visit weekend
- The Nittany Lions lose out on two of the three top offensive tacle prospects on the board. Michael Carroll goes to Alabama and Ziyare Addison commits to Oregon
- More recruiting updates on Kainoa Winston and Andrew Olesh
- Prospect camp recap from what Fitz saw on Sunday
Penn State White Out not a protected game. Should it be?
Bauer joins the show to discuss his conversation with Franklin on a wide range of topics, including the fallout of King Mack transferring to Alabama. You can read the transcript by following the links below.
However, we focus mainly on Franklin’s comments regarding the White Out Game and what it means to not just Penn State but also college football at large. Here’s a portion of his quotes to Bauer last week.

“We should be getting protected in a game that almost every football fan in America would say the White Out game is one of the best games, one of the biggest games, of the year. And everything that goes with it,” he continued. “And we’re not getting the same level of protection and support that other games and that other teams get.”
We discuss the validity of his comments, the reality of the situation, and how a noon game takes not only the luster out of the atmosphere but is a logistical nightmare for fans to actually get into their seats by kickoff.
