So on today’s BWI Live show, we’re reviewing our conversations with quarterback Drew Allar, offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki and head coach James Franklin.

Penn State head coach James Franklin discusses his team’s progress

Franklin spoke with the media for roughly ten minutes. We’ll focus on just a few answers from his comments. Check out the full press conference here if you’d like to hear them in detail.

Pickel noted that Franklin commented on the team’s “bumps and bruises” during camp and discusses those updates for fans to give them a sense of where the team is at from a health perspective. We’ll also discuss the news that Peter Gonzalez suffered a significant injury and will be out for an extended period. What does that do to the team’s receiver room? We’ll discuss.

Andy Kotelnicki

You’ll also hear from Kotelnicki and his thoughts on the team’s offense so far during camp. He discusses how the team can play up to eight offensive linemen in a game or season and how offensive line coach Phil Trautwein accomplishes that task. He also discussed how a team creates explosive plays without just attacking downfield in the passing game.

That conversation led to one about having the right blend of players on the field at one time and putting players in a position to accentuate their skills. We’ll discuss what that means for the Penn State offense and the players who will make up the top targets and ball carriers on Saturdays.

Sunday Film Study

Finally, we’ll discuss the Sunday Film Study from this past weekend on 2024 foe, Wisconsin. Penn State hasn’t played the Badgers since 2021, and the team is radically different under new head coach Luke Fickell. We’ll give you a high-level overview of the changes in offense and defense from last season and discuss what that means for Penn State when the team heads to Madison in October.
