Penn State is now just 10 days away from beginning one of its most anticipated football seasons in recent decades. On Tuesday evening, head coach James Franklin opened up practice to the media for the final time before focus switches completely to Nevada beginning on Wednesday.

The battle for Drew Allar’s backup spot appears to be almost finalized, while right guard is another popular position battle that Franklin discussed on Tuesday evening. Blue White Illustrated’s Nate Bauer summarized those battles following practice.

But overall, Franllin sounds confident about his team’s progress.

“I think it’s been really good. I think we’re in a good place,” Franklin said. “Obviously, it’s very different in year two with Andy [Kotelnicki] and very different in year two with [Justin Lustig]. Everything’s about putting our defense and putting Jim [Knowles] in the best position as well, so that we can come out from game one and play championship-level football. So I like where we’re at. We still got some work to do, but the good thing is, we still have time to get there.
