Committed: Penn State adds top remaining uncommitted prospect for 2025, Malachi Goodman
Penn State football picked up a massive commitment on Tuesday in a literal and metaphorical sense. A day after the program flipped top receiver target Matthew Outten from Virginia Tech, they gained a commitment from its top offensive tackle target left on the board. New Jersey’s Malachi Goodman from Paramus Catholic chose the Nittany Lions over USC and Auburn at noon on Sep 3.
Join recruiting expert Sean Fitz as he discusses the long and mysterious journey that was Goodman’s recruiting story. He details the reasons behind Goodman picking Penn State over two NIL powerhouses, the extended recruiting timeline, and more.

Malachi Goodman fills a big need in Penn State’s recruiting class
The Penn State recruiting class in 2025 has plenty of high-upside players with under-the-radar recruiting profiles. What the team needed was star power. Goodman is the 11th-ranked offensive tackle prospect according to On3’s national rankings and brings a 6-5 315-pound presence to the group. We’ll discuss how he fits into the offensive line class that includes athlete Brady O’Hara, New England tackle Owen Aliciene, and fellow New Jersey native Michael Troutman.

Journey to decision and biggest factors for commitment
Blue White Illustrated has been tracking Goodman’s process for months, but information about the offensive lineman is scant. We discuss his quiet nature and what factors led to Penn State winning over other top schools that were after him. Goodman’s list of suitors included Alabama, Georgia, plus USC and Auburn, as mentioned above. Fitz discusses what type of person Goodman is and how his family dynamics influenced the decision.
We’ll also discuss where Goodman ranks in the team’s recruiting class overall by star ranking and what his commitment did to the team’s overall ranking and class score.
Despite having months before signing day, Penn State is already at 25 commits in the class and isn’t done adding talent to the roster for 2025. With two big additions this week, how much room is actually left? We’ll discuss potential numbers and what sort of talent it would take for Penn State to stretch past it’s normal limit of committed players in any given class.
