Committed: Penn State adds versatile athlete David Davis to Class of 2026
It was a quiet offseason for the Penn State Nittany Lions football recruiting staff. The program, which normally snags a handful of commits in January and early February, got just one signing at the end of Junior Days with cornerback Julian Peterson joining the program this offseason. Despite a deep playoff run, the return on commitments wasn’t the instant gratification that some might have expected. Well, on the first day of spring football, that all changed with Pittsburgh athlete David Davis committing to the program.
Blue White Illustrated recruiting reporter Sean Fitz sits down for 15 minutes to discuss Davis’ commitment journey, his positional ambiguity, and how he fits into the Class of 2026. Check out the complete video on the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel, or embedded in this article.

Penn State picks up an athlete from a rising school in Western PA
Imani Christian has only been playing football for a few years, but the program has quickly established itself as a pipeline of quality prospects for Penn State. The team took defensive end Dayshaun Brunett in the Class of 2025, and during his recruitment, reporter Ryan Snyder mentioned the number of athletes behind him that the team was interested in acquiring. Fast forward a year, and that information proved to be gold as Davis joined the class on the day that head coach James Franklin opened spring ball.

However, Davis’ recruitment evolved over time from running back to athlete. Fitz describes how this four-star prospect erupted on the scene before his sophomore season and how an injury changed his perception during his junior year.
So, where does he project now? Fitz gives his thoughts, and we discuss one key attribute that shows up on Davis’s tape, regardless of where he lined up for Imani Christian last season.
Penn State Class of 2026 reset
Davis joins the program as the 299th player in the On300 and as a consensus four-star in the Industry rankings. He’s the sixth industry-rated, four-star prospect to join the program and the fourth from Pennsylvania. Kevin Brown (62), Messiah Mickens (134) and Matt Sieg (196) previously committed to the program very early in the cycle and have continued to lead the program’s recruiting rankings since.
