Top Penn State target Jaylen Harvey announces top five schools
Penn State is one of five schools still in the mix with Maryland edge rusher Jaylen Harvey. On Monday, the Quince Orchard prospect announced that in addition to the Nittany Lions, Florida, Maryland, USC and Tennessee are also still in the mix.
Listed at 6-foot-2, 250 pounds, Harvey has long been considered a Penn State lean. BWI’s Sean Fitz first logged an RPM for Harvey to end up with the Nittany Lions last October. Since then, he’s visited many different schools, but no program has hosted more than two or three times so far. For comparison, he’s been to State College 10 times since April 2022.

“I like Penn State a lot,” Harvey said earlier this year. “My interest is very high in them. My relationship with the coaches, how they make me feel like a top recruit and the way they develop edge rushers have them up there. The way I feel there and how they coach guys like me up makes Penn State a program I would love to be a part of.”

Harvey’s top five is far from a surprise. Earlier this month, he kicked off his official visit schedule with a trip to Penn State, June 2-4. He followed that up with a visit to Florida (June 9-11) before traveling to the West Coast this past weekend to see USC. Harvey is expected to see Maryland this upcoming weekend. It’s unclear if he’ll make it to Tennessee at all before the visit window closes in a week from today.
Regardless, this recruitment looks good for the Nittany Lions, as Harvey has already set a commitment date for July 4. Penn State defensive line coach Deion Barnes has earned one additional defensive line commitment from another Maryland native, Xavier Gilliam. The Columbia prospect could play either as an interior player or on edge down the road.
