Penn State news, notes, and updates for Dec. 23 include a recap of the Nittany Lions’ big weekend across multiple sports. It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines.

Penn State tweets of the day

It is possible that Penn State has had a better weekend in its storied history. But, it’s hard to fathom what could top the last three days. First and foremost, the women’s volleyball team won its eighth national championship after knocking off Louisville 3-1 in the Cardinals’ home gym. It made Katie Schumacher-Cawley the first women to lead a women’s volleyball team to an NCAA title. The Nittany Lions won their first College Football Playoff game, which also marked head coach James Franklin’s 100th victory in State College. The men’s basketball team beat Drexel. And, the wrestling program won three matches at the Collegiate Wrestling Duals on Sunday.

“I know I’ve talked about them all season, but they were the reason why this team was so successful,” Schumacher-Cawley said. “They did what it took on and off the court to help this team and to show the younger ones how to work and to be a great teammate. I couldn’t be more proud of these guys and proud to be a Penn Stater and just happy for the university.”

Added Penn State coach James Franklin:

“I think that’s one of the special things about being at Penn State, there’s so many sports and so many coaches that are thriving. A big part that have is our leadership with Pat Kraft and Neeli Bendapudi, so we don’t take that for granted whatsoever.”

Quote of the day

“I mean, the standard at Penn State is winning National Championships. That’s how it’s always been. That’s what Coach Rose, like, instilled, and that’s what we try to uphold every single day. Yeah, this is like a dream come true, but when you come to Penn State, you’re a Penn Stater for life, and the ultimate goal is winning a National Championship. Like, that is the standard here.”
