Did Penn State move in updated On3 Consensus Rankings?
Penn State football picked up its final piece of its Class of 2023 on Wednesday afternoon. Welcoming Chimdy Onoh, a four-star tackle out of Dundalk, Md., the Nittany Lions boosted its recruiting haul to 23 members.
Listed at 6-foot-5, 275 pounds, Onoh became the 15th four-star to join the fold. And, in the process, he helped push Penn State’s total score in the On3 Consensus Football Team Recruiting Rankings higher.
Onoh did not, however, move Penn State’s ranking.
Holding the 14th overall spot in the rankings before the commitment, trailing Southern Cal at No. 13, the Nittany Lions remained in the same position after it. With every indication being Onoh’s commitment as Penn State’s last in the Class of 2023, future movement is unlikely.
Examining Penn State’s Class of 2023 score
Ahead of Onoh’s commitment, Penn State’s score stood at 91.409 as a recruiting class. Using the On3 Consensus formula, the class was judged against an average number of 21 commitments per class. On a per-recruit basis, meanwhile, Penn State’s average player score checked in at 90.54.

Rated at No. 227 nationally in the On3 Consensus, with a position ranking of 17th at offensive tackle, and a Maryland rank of No. 5, Onoh instantly becomes the 8th-best player in Penn State’s Class of 2023. He’s also one of 12 members of the class to earn a ranking within the On300.

Evaluating Onoh
The last addition to Penn State’s recruiting Class of 2023, Onoh helped fill an outstanding position of need for the Nittany Lions this offseason. And, boasting a resume that includes a captaincy during his senior season at Dundalk, plus second-team all-state recognition, in Onoh the Nittany Lions have added a piece with high aspirations ahead of his eventual enrollment in the program.
“Chimdy is a tremendous young man. His love for the game and the want to learn is what sets him apart,” said Tom Abel, Dundalk head coach via press release. “The best way I can describe him is as a worker. Chimdy is clearly a great football player but his ability to balance school, a job and sport is impressive.
“On the field, Chimdy’s strengths include his physicality, length/range, explosiveness and the ability to bend. Chimdy will arrive at Penn State eager to grow and learn. He is excited to be a part of such a great program and contribute in any way he can.”
