Drew Allar connects with Nick Singleton, KeAndre Lambert-Smith: Penn State Practice Highlights
For the second time in five days, Penn State football opened up practice to the media, and like last time, we’re focusing on the Nittany Lions passing game. Here are practice highlights from the team’s fourth day of camp. As always, subscribe to blue white Illustrated on YouTube for a comprehensive breakdown of what’s happening.
Drew Allar working with Penn state running backs
Of course, we’re focusing on quarterback Drew Allar and the open competition at quarterback, but today we’ll see it through the lens of his receivers. Fans want running back Nick Singleton to become a bigger part of the passing game. He’s been working hard this offseason to improve as a receiver and is getting coaching on his form.
The team had to move inside because of the weather, and he showed progress in red zone catching drills.
The running backs got a correction from head coach James Franklin and the offensive staff about their technique on these routes.
Top wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith saw plenty of action with Allar as the offense went through team and individual periods. Like the running backs, Franklin offered coaching to his top receiver.
Beau Pribula and Malik McClain had several good connections during the drill. McClain keeps flashing potential as a weapon for the Nittany Lions, but where he stands in the competition for playing time isn’t clear, with several other receivers having a strong camp during our view of the practice.

As a bonus, we also got a look at the Penn State defensive backs going through interception drills inside. The group looks as talented in person as they do on paper. The top four safeties show strong hands through drills.
Open practice coming next Saturday
Penn State opens up practice next week to the fans! The Nittany Lions will hold a public practice starting at 7 pm next Saturday. It will be a two-hour practice that is open to members of the public on Sat., Aug. 12. Held at the Lasch practice fields; it will be free to attend. Gates open at 6:30, and the on-field work begins at 7 p.m. ET.
“We’re looking forward to the open practice that we’re having, which is something new,” Franklin said earlier in the day.
“Me and Manny went and visited the Patriots. We think it’s going to be a good thing. We like to play in Beaver Stadium. But I also think there’s an aspect of playing in front of the fans and in front of the media.”
