Drew Allar injury update: What did Penn State coach James Franklin say about the Lions QB?
Madison, Wis. — Penn State coach James Franklin had little in the way of an update about injured starting quarterback Drew Allar following the team’s 28-13 win over Wisconsin. But, he did decide what went into the decision not to bring him out for the second half.
“I’m not going to get into a whole lot of medical stuff right now, especially when I don’t have a whole lot of information,” Franklin said. “I wouldn’t necessarily describe it [as being precautionary]. It was, is he going to be mobile enough to give us a chance to run the offense the way we [want]?
“It really came down to Drew once he came out. I asked him to be very honest, and he just didn’t feel like he was [ready to play]. Like at the end of the half there you saw even throwing was challenging.”
More on Penn State QB Allar
Allar seemed to be in good spirits after the game despite what he is dealing with. Allar wore a left knee brace, which wasn’t present in the first half, during the second half. He shed it to sing the alma mater, though, and walk to the locker room.

Kirby Smart reveals latest on Georgia WR
The second-year starter and junior from Ohio took a sack on 1st and 10 at the PSU 43 with 1:18 to go in the first half after right tackle Nolan Rucci, filling in for an apparently banged-up Anthony Donkoh, was beat by Badgers defensive end Jake Cheney, who landed on Allar’s left leg.
The next two plays were incompletions. Allar fired one pass at the feet of running back Kaytron Allen while under duress and then sailed a third down pass over the head of an open Trey Wallace. He then came to the sideline, bent over for a moment, and proceeded to walk to the locker room with head athletic trainer Andy Mutnan as Wisconsin fielded a punt and then kneed out the first half on the other end of the field. Beau Pribula took over in his place and finished 11 of 13 for 98 yards and a passing touchdown in addition to six carries for 28 yards.
No new news on Dennis-Sutton, Donkoh, Harris
Starting right tackle Anthony Donkoh exited the game in the first half and never returned. He has been dealing with an upper body injury for week. Cornerback AJ Harris, meanwhile, was hurt late in the game but walked off under his own power. He did appear to be in some discomfort, though, heading to the locker room. And, Dani Dennis-Sutton, meanwhile, was down on the field after a second quarter pass play. He was favoring his right leg. Despite not returning to the field in the second half, he did greet fans afterward and flashed a smile while limping to the locker room.
