Penn State news, notes, and updates for Sept. 26 include a national honor for Drew Allar plus interim coach David Braun talking Northwestern’s matchup with the Lions.

It’s time to dive into Tuesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with an honor for Drew Allar. The Nittany Lions quarterback was not recognized by the Big Ten after throwing for four touchdowns, no interceptions, and 166 yards in last weekend’s shutout victory over Iowa. But, he is on the Davey O’Brien national quarterback award top performers list for Week 4.

“I think that we’re finding different ways to win,” Allar said after the win. “Iowa is a very tough defense. They’re a very sound defense and play very physical. They’re kind of like a bend don’t break defense. I think that they held their own a couple of times when we were driving to score and put us behind the sticks and we kind of hurt ourselves with penalties. I think that it’s just one of those games where you have to take care of the ball and not force anything that is not there because they do a great job of capitalizing on offensive mistakes.

“That’s kind of what I learned throughout the week watching their defense the turnovers they do force is kind of like quarterbacks forcing things that are not there and they’re very good at capitalizing on those mistakes. I think that we did a really good job tonight of protecting the ball.”

In other news, interim Northwestern head coach David Braun fielded a couple of Penn State questions ahead of the Wildcats-Nittany Lions meeting this weekend in Evanston, Ill.

“We have one heck of a football team coming in here,” Braun said. Very well-coached.” He added on the Lions’ defense:

“They’re aggressive. They’re balanced. You can’t find a weakness on that defense. Really well-coached. Willing to play tight coverage. Mix in some different looks. Put stress on you on first and second down.”

Quote of the day

“The environment was so awesome. At times it was magical. Most of the time I wanted to suit up and go play because of the level of play I was watching and the crowd. Some of my favorite things about Penn State are the relationships I have with the coaching staff and Coach [James] Franklin, the level of play there, what they’re willing to do to get me committed and how they care about more than my football career and rather how I develop as a man.”
