Penn State commit Ethan Grunkemeyer has one more day of competition to go before learning if he will join the Elite 11 fraternity. He enters it outside of the top 11, according to the evaluators who run the Elite 11 Finals, following two days of competition in California.

Grunkemeyer was the camp organizers’ No. 10 quarterback out of 20 following the first day of drills. With a strong performance on Friday, he could join future teammate Drew Allar in the Elite 11 fraternity. Drill work begins at approximately 1 p.m. ET with the camp MVP and Elite 11 class revealed around 5 p.m. ET.

“I have a pretty good connection with him already and it’s going to be awesome to learn under a guy that has a ton of talent and game experience when I step in the door,” Grunkemeyer told On3 about his relationship with Allar prior to this year’s Elite 11. “I’m excited to learn under him and keep growing.”

Starting with the Elite 11 evaluators, they scored Grunkemeyer as a top 10 participant in the Pro Day event with a score of 42. On3 tracked the future Penn State passer as 17 for 20. That was the second most accurate mark in the competition. Beyond that, Grunkemeyer was second in the Breakaway Ball Score event. It “combines a QBs average velocity (MPH) and average release time (seconds) from 12 throws made at the BreakAway station. The higher the score, the faster and quicker the ball is delivered,” according to the Elite 11. His score in that category was 91. The winner posted a 95.

On3 evaluators called Grunkemeyer the MVP of Day 1 and the No. 3 quarterback on Day 2.

Ethan Grunkemeyer backed up his On3 MVP showing from Day 1 with another strong evening,” On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power writes. “The Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy signal caller continued to flash the natural, loose arm and plus velocity. Grunkemeyer had a handful of highlight throws and drove the ball to the boundary with ease.

“There’s a pop to his arm and second life on his throws that is noticeable in this setting. He paired the arm talent with coordinated and functional footwork and strong accuracy.”
