Penn State news, notes, and updates for Oct. 7 include the first point spread for the Lions’ matchup with Michigan next weekend, plus head coach James Franklin saw a quarterback committed elsewhere on Thursday night.

It’s time to dive into Friday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college football.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the opening line for the next Penn State football game.

Draft Kings was first to market with a point spread for the expected top-10 matchup at the ‘Big House’ in Ann Arbor. It started with Michigan as a 10-point favorite. But, as of Friday morning, the number has been bet down to eight points. For those who are unaware, the Lions would have to lose by seven points or less for those who backed them at +8 to win. If Michigan wins by eight or more, it would cover the number.

The spread will likely bounce around in the days leading up to kickoff.

In other news, Penn State coaches have started their bye week recruiting travels. Part of them took head coach James Franklin to Savannah, Ga. There, he watched Class of 2024 Florida State quarterback commit Luke Kromenhoek in action. He is a three-star by both the On3 Consensus player rankings and On3’s own evaluation. But, the 6-foot-4, 185-pound junior has numerous Power-5 options, including one from the Nittany Lions.

Finally, for this section, we’ll note that the Penn State men’s hockey team opens its 2022-2023 season tonight at home. It is the first of a two-game series against Canisius. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. on BTN+.

Quote of the day

“One of the things that helps is when you get guys that have already applied and already paid their acceptance fee. That’s helpful, that’s pretty telling, that’s pretty strong information. “And then you get a good indication about how guys are communicating, how responsive they are, you get a pretty good idea.

“The red flags for most of us in whatever industry you’re in, they’re there you gotta be willing to see them and read them. But I think we have a pretty good idea, we have a pretty strong group, we obviously had some changes in our class.”
