Today’s Blue-White Illustrated Penn State newsstand includes updates on the 2022 NFL Draft and recruiting.

The first former Nittany Lion is off the board following round one on Thursday night. And, the Lions extended a new offer in the Class of 2023.

It’s time to dive into the top tweets and headlines on April 29.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with Jahan Dotson.

The Washington Commanders selected the onetime Lions receiver at the No. 16 overall. A 2021 All-American, Dotson was picked earlier than almost every pre-draft projection said he would be.

“He reminds me of DeSean Jackson a little me, he reminds me of Steve Smith a little bit,” Commanders head coach Ron Rivera told reporters.

Dotson was slotted in most media mock drafts to land with either the Green Bay Packers or Kansas City Chiefs late in round one. However, he finds a good fit with the NFC East franchise, according to BWI film analyst Thomas Frank Carr. And, Penn State was certainly thrilled with the fact that Dotson became the first Lions receiver selected in the first round since Bryant Johnson in 2003.

“Jahan has an intense, laser-like focus on greatness and a competitive edge that will serve him well at the next level,” Penn State coach James Franklin said in a released statement. “His quickness, sure hands, and route running ability will make him a dangerous and explosive threat in the NFL. Jahan is a perfect example of what we want our program to be all about.

In other news, Penn State offered a senior-to-be on Thursday. The Nittany Lions joined the mix for Columbus, Ohio three-star defensive lineman Kamari Burns. The Class of 2023 recruit previously had a top-six of Kentucky, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, and Indiana. So, Penn State has work to do to get a seat at the table.

Quote of the day

“The guy’s got speed, he’s got play-making ability, he’s got some competitiveness when the ball is in the air. He’s kind of like Terry [McLaurin] in the fact that he’s not like the biggest guy, but the 50-50 balls, he has the ability to go up and get those.

“The guy’s just got tremendous ball skills, and he’s got some versatility, so he can play in the slot, he can play outside, he can return punts. He brings a lot to the table, and he helps us in a lot of different ways.”
