La Mesa (Calif.) Mount Miguel five-star athlete Brandon Arrington named his top 12 schools earlier this month, and he’s looking to further narrow that focus in the spring and summer. The next step is setting up official visits, and his latest announced will be to Penn State.

The nation’s No. 15 overall prospect and No. 1 cornerback will be in Happy Valley for an official visit on the weekend of May 2, he said on Thursday. The Nittany Lions, spearheaded by the efforts of cornerbacks coach Terry Smith and recruiting coordinators Alan Zemaitis and Kenny Sanders, offered back in October of 2023. Penn State was the sixth program to extend an offer, back when Arrington played at Helix High. Barring another trip in the spring, Arrington’s official visit will be his first trip to State College.

Arrington included Penn State in his Top 12

The 6-foot-2.5, 180-pound prospect has a shortened list that also includes Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M, UCLA and USC, in addition to the Nittany Lions. He also has official visits set to Texas A&M (June 5), Oregon (June 13) and USC (June 20). He took an unofficial visit to Alabama at the beginning of February, a trip which made a huge impression on Arrington, and checked out Oregon in January.

“These schools stand out because I have visited most of them and had great talks with the coaches,” he told On3’s Chad Simmons. “All of these programs have a history of getting high recruits to the league too. All of these schools stay in touch and show the most love.”

Arrington one of the nation’s fastest prospects

Arrington hauled in 31 receptions for 529 yards and five touchdowns as a junior. He totaled 26 tackles, three passes defended and an interception on the defensive side of the ball. He won the California Winter State Track and Field Championships in the 60-meter dash earlier this month with a time of 6.67 seconds. Penn State running back target Brian Bonner from Valencia, who will visit in April, finished third with a time of 6.84 seconds.

“Brandon is one of one,” Mount Miguel head coach Verlain Betofe told On3. “A lot of guys are fast. A lot of guys are tall and have length. It is rare to have a guy like Brandon, who can do it all.”

The Nittany Lions signed two prospects from California in the Class of 2025 in Mater Dei cornerback Daryus Dixson and Charter Oak linebacker LaVar Arrington II. Recently-enrolled wide receiver Kyron Hudson also played at Mater Dei before spending four years at USC.
