Former Penn State LB Michael Mauti joins Nittany Lion teammate on high school coaching staff
Former Penn State linebacker Michael Mauti is moving back to Pennsylvania.
After coaching high school football the past two years at his alma mater, Mandeville High School in New Orleans, it was announced Friday that he’ll now join his former Nittany Lion teammate, Jordan Hill, as the assistant head coach at Trinity.
Back in 2021, Hill, who grew up in Steelton, Pa., took over as the head coach at Trinity High School in nearby Camp Hill. Following a 3-6 season during his first year, Hill led the Shamrocks to 10 wins in 2022, including a 58-27 win in the Class 2A District III championship game against Annville-Cleona. Trinity made it all the way to the state semifinals before getting knocked out by eventual state champions Southern Columbia.
“I’m ecstatic,” Hill told Blue White Illustrated on Friday. “To have someone of his stature, experience, and a lifelong friend join the staff is huge. Obviously, a lot of people know what our role was at PSU, but to continue to want to impact lives together is what means the most to us both. We are going to do some really nice things as a staff.”
In addition to his time at Penn State, Mauti spent five years in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints. In 2017, Mauti was named an Ed Block Courage Award recipient, which is given out annually to select NFL players who are voted by their teammates as role models of inspiration, sportsmanship and courage.

Hill also spent multiple seasons in the NFL, primarily with the Seattle Seahawks from 2013 to 2016. He won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks in 2014.
Since Hill’s arrival, Trinity has become an attractive option for top players throughout the Harrisburg area. This past season, Ath. Messiah Mickens starred as a true freshman. At 5-foot-9, 195 pounds, he made an impact at both running back and on defense.
Despite playing just one season of high school football, Mickens is already shaping up to be one of Pennsylvania’s top up-and-coming players. In addition to Penn State, he holds offers from Alabama, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Texas A&M, among others.
