Former Penn State quarterback Christian Veilleux picks latest transfer destination
Former Penn State and Pittsburgh quarterback Christian Veilleux has decided where his third college football home will be. The Ottawa, Ont., native is exiting the transfer portal for the second time by committing to Georgia State. He announced the news on social media Wednesday with a simple message: “The next opportunity is the best opportunity! Let’s go to work!”
Veilleux left Penn State hoping to become the Panthers’ starter after losing out on the top job for the Nittany Lions to Sean Clifford in 2021 and 2022. He played in seven games for Pitt in 2023, completing 94 of 184 passes for 1,179 yards and seven touchdowns to eight interceptions. His career stat line is now 117 of 219 (53.4 percent) for 1,461 yards and 10 touchdowns. He then left the ACC school following this year’s spring practice.
At Georgia State, Veilleux joins a quarterback competition that will be decided by first-year head coach Dell McGee and first-year offensive coordinator Jim Chaney. The Panthers aim to replace multi-year starter Darren Grainger. Over three seasons at the Sun Belt school, Grainger threw for 6,779 yards and 57 touchdowns while also rushing 456 times for 2,130 yards and 19 scores. Veilleux’s competition to be QB1 includes former three-star Braylen Ragland and Georgia Tech transfer Zach Gibson. Both threw pick-sixes in the program’s spring game, though Gibson did toss a touchdown.

While the transfer portal officially opens for business on April 16 for undergraduate players, grad transfers can enter it at any time. This specific transfer portal window runs through April 30, 2024. It is important to note that a player does not need to make his decision by the deadline. Undergrads do, however, have to declare their intent to enter the portal by then. When they pick their next school or decide to return to their current one after that is up to them.
