Former Penn State quarterback Ta'Quan Roberson picks second transfer destination

Penn State signed New Jersey native and quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson ahead of the 2019 college football season. He left the Lions after the 2021 season and will be at his third different college ahead of the 2024 season. Roberson moved on from UCONN via the transfer portal earliest this month. His time in the method players use to find a new place to play ended when he committed to Kansas State on Wednesday.
Roberson was the third ex-Lions passer to hit the portal this spring. Christian Veilleux left Pittsburgh in April before exiting the portal for the second time earlier this month by committing to Georgia State. Michael Johnson Jr. is now the only former Nittany Lion passer in the portal. He left FAU in late April.
As for Roberson, the Wayne, N.J., native arrived at UConn three years ago. He initially won the Huskies’ starting job but suffered a season-ending injury in the opening game of the 2022 season. Roberson returned in 2023 and completed 197 of 338 passes for 2,075 yards and 12 touchdowns to six interceptions over 11 games. Now, he’s found the spot he’ll play his final season of eligibility at.
A few additional former players who signed with Penn State before the 2019 season are still playing college football thanks to the extra year of eligibility afforded to all athletes because of the coronavirus pandemic. Defensive end Smith Vilbert, offensive lineman Sal Wormley, and defensive tackles D’Von Ellies and Hakeem Beamon are all still on the Lions’ roster. And, safety Tyler Rudolph and receiver TJ Jones are redshirt seniors at UMass and UAB, respectively.
Penn State 2024 transfer portal tracker
Roberson and Johnson Jr., were not the only players looking for new homes in the portal after the 2023 season, of course. Numerous players came to or left Penn State, as well, between the start of 2024 and now. Here’s the full list:
