Former Penn State receiver Cristian Driver picks Minnesota as transfer destination

Former Penn State receiver Cristian Driver has picked his transfer destination. The Texas native and son of NFL great Donald Driver is moving on to Minnesota. He announced the intra-conference transfer on Sunday night. Besides the Golden Gophers, the former Class of 2022 recruit also had portal offers from Utah, Oregon State, Iowa State, Colorado State, and UMass. Minnesota was the first school to show heightened interest, however. And, it will ultimately be his next program.
BWI’s Ryan Snyder covered Driver’s exit late in 2023.
Driver started his collegiate career on defense playing cornerback, playing in four games during the 2022 season. In the offseason, he switched to offense to play wide receiver, a position he preferred to play coming out of high school.
“For me, I just feel more confident at that position. I feel more comfortable playing that position,” Driver told Blue White Illustrated back in the spring. “Of course, my dad played that position. Coach Franklin coached my dad at that position, so I think I’ve been able to and I can pick up great knowledge from both of them.”
According to Pro Football Focus, Driver totaled 27 snaps at receiver this season and another 22 snaps on special teams. He had one catch against Delaware for eight yards.
Coming out of high school, Driver held a four-star rating in the On3 Industry Rankings, coming in at No. 297 nationally. Driver finished as a four-star prospect at 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN. On3 rated him a three-star prospect with an 88 overall rating.

While the transfer portal officially opens for business on Dec. 4 for undergraduate players, grad transfers can enter it at any time. This specific transfer portal window runs through Jan. 2, 2024. It is important to note that a player does not need to make his decision by the deadline. Undergrads do, however, have to declare their intent to enter the portal by then. When they pick their next school or decide to return to their current one after that is up to them. A second transfer portal window will run April 15-30.
