Former Penn State receiver Allen Robinson has a new home in the NFL.

Announced Thursday afternoon, the veteran NFL receiver has signed a three-year contract with the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams. According to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero, the deal is valued at $46.5 million with $30.7 million guaranteed, per his sources.

Robinson joins a loaded Rams receiving unit that includes Super Bowl MVP and reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year Cooper Kupp, plus Robert Woods and even Odell Beckham Jr., who the team is hoping to resign in free agency.

Testing the NFL free agency waters

Making the move in free agency, the deal relieves Robinson from his most recent NFL home, the Chicago Bears. Having had the franchise tag placed on him for 2021, Robinson hinted through the course of the season that his exit from Chicago could be coming soon.

“I personally feel like we had an opportunity to be able to get something done over the past 365 days,” Robinson told ESPN’s Jeff Dickerson in November.

Spending the past four seasons in Chicago, Robinson played in 57 games, reeling in 293 receptions for 3,561 yards and 18 touchdowns.

In his four seasons prior, Robinson notched 202 receptions in three full seasons, racking up 2,848 yards and 22 touchdowns. He missed the 2017 campaign due to injury tearing his ACL.

Aside from his injury-shortened 2017 season, Robinson’s most recent campaign in Chicago was his least productive. Playing in 12 games while dealing with a hamstring injury, Robinson caught 38 passes for 410 yards and a touchdown.

What’s next for Robinson

Even so, Robinson was widely considered to be the top available free agent wide receiver this offseason.

Leading into last year’s disastrous season for the Bears, Robinson was one of the most prolific receivers in the NFL. His 1,250 yards and 102 catches were career highs in his 16 games played in Chicago during the 2020 season. Adding seven TDs to his tally, Robinson’s receptions were tied for second all-time in Bears single-season history.

That effort came on top of a 2019 in which Robinson collected 98 receptions for 1,147 yards and seven scores.

Robinson’s 97 catches during the 2013 season remains a Penn State single-season record. He was a two-time First-Team All-Big ten selection in 2012 and 2013. He was also a two-time Richter-Howard Big Ten Receiver of the year the same two seasons.
