Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a conclusion to Bishop McCort standout Mason Gibson’s recruitment. The former Cornell and Penn State commit and Class of 2024 top-15 132-pound senior committed to Rutgers on Monday. In backing away from his pledge to the Nittany Lions earlier this month, Gibson wrote on social media that “I would like to thank Penn State for their understanding and for ending this on good terms.” He offered more insight into that decision in an interview with the Tribune-Democrat.

“It kind of just, kind of happened,” Gibson told the outlet. “Me and my dad and mom talked it over and thought it was better to reopen my options again. Just let the process happen all over again and see what the future holds. It’s nothing against Penn State. It’s just about a better future and a better choice.”

Gibson also told The Tribune-Democrat that his brother, Erik, will stick with the Nittany Lions. Erik Gibson, who PSU lists at 165 pounds, took a redshirt year in 2023-2024 after transferring in from Cornell.

Quote of the day

“This spring I’ve stepped up my entire game. I’m a lot more confident. I’m really comfortable out there. I think my leadership role has increased. I feel really comfortable going through my progressions, hanging in the pocket and making some downfield throws. And once the pocket collapses, I’m getting out and not just running but extending the line of scrimmage and finding people downfield at the last second. It’s just something that’s come with comfort.

“I’ve been here for a while. I can open up my entire game. And I think I’ve stepped it up this spring. I’ve had my redshirt season and last season I got some experience. But I’m in a good state of comfort, and I have a lot of confidence right now.”
