Woodberry Forest (Va.) Class of 2023 defensive lineman Rodney Lora opened up his recruitment last week after being committed to Virginia for nearly three months. The three-star prospect, who is originally from New Jersey, is now in the process of sorting out future visits.

First up? A trip to Happy Valley to watch Penn State take on Northwestern on Saturday. The Nittany Lions have yet to offer Lora a scholarship but have been monitoring him during his senior season. The trip will be an unofficial visit for Lora.

Lora chose Virginia on June 24 after taking official visits by UVA and Rutgers in June. Michigan, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and others were also involved the first time around.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Lora is the No. 84 defensive lineman nationally and the No. 18 prospect in Virginia in the Class of 2023 according to the On3 Consensus rankings. According to On3’s own rankings he’s a three-star prospect and the No. 64 defensive lineman nationally.

Penn State has stayed active on the defensive line in the Class of 2023 despite the class being nearly full at this point. The Nittany Lions have commitments from interior prospect Tyriq Blanding and defensive end Jameial Lyons. Virginia athlete Mathias Barnwell could end up on the defensive line in the future as well. Penn State took commitments from four defensive linemen in the last cycle, including true freshmen Dani Dennis-Sutton and Zane Durant, who have each played in all four games in their first season.

The Nittany Lions would still like to add another defensive lineman to the mix in the Class of 2023.
