Four-star SF Dwayne Pierce 'loves' Penn State official visit
Micah Shrewsberry and the Penn State men’s basketball program welcomed highly-sought small forward Dwayne Pierce to campus last weekend for an official visit. The On3 four-star prospect (6-6, 205) from the Class of 2024, ranked No. 94 nationally and No. 26 at his position, is high on the Nittany Lions’ list and remains so coming out of the visit.
And, according to Pierce, the feeling is mutual coming out of the trip.
“I loved it,” Pierce said. “It was my first official visit. The environment was indescribable. I don’t think iI can even put it into words. You just had to be there.”
Dwayne Pierce weekend itinerary
Beginning on Friday afternoon, Pierce very much was there.
Arriving on Penn State’s campus during the day on Friday with his parents, Pierce followed the same itinerary as Parham. That included checking out the team’s practice facility, watching practice, and having photos taken. And after everything Saturday learning more about the program, the trip also included time spent at a program tailgate, followed by the White Out game between Penn State and Minnesota across the street at Beaver Stadium.
Able to spend some time with head coach Micah Shrewsberry on the trip, Pierce noted how strong the relationship has become through the recruitment process to this point.
“Coach Shrewsberry is an amazing person to look up to and be around,” Pierce said. “Already he has taught me a lot on and off the court. It’s bigger than basketball with him.”

Next steps
Still hoping to build on that process, Pierce added that one of the more appealing elements of the Penn State basketball program is the emphasis it places on development beyond just the hardwood.
“My relationships there are building day by day because, with all of the staff, it is bigger than basketball with them,” Pierce said.
At this point in the process, Pierce has a growing list of interest and offers. Of the high majors to get involved this summer, they now include Rutgers, Illinois, Memphis, and Pitt. Most recently, Florida State and Georgia Tech entered the mix last month.
According to Pierce, schools presently standing out are Penn State, Iowa State, Memphis, Florida State, Virginia, and St. John’s in the recruiting process.
He hasn’t yet set a timeline for when he’d like to make a decision.
