Top Penn State target Liam Andrews sets commitment date
Penn State fans won’t have to wait much longer to learn where the staff’s top remaining target may be headed. Defensive lineman Liam Andrews, a four-star prospect from the Dexter School in Massachusetts, confirmed with On3’s Chad Simmons Monday night that he’ll end his recruitment this upcoming Friday, July 21.
A four-star prospect, Andrews is down to three schools: Penn State, South Carolina and Wisconsin.
“These three schools made my final list due to the people at these programs and the relationships they’ve developed with me,” Andrews told On3. “All 3 programs have phenomenal head coaches, defensive line coaches, strength coaches, and other people. I have created strong relationships with all of these people which has really set them apart from the rest.”
Recruiting: Another four-star prospect locks in Penn State visit
Listed at 6-foot-4, 275 pounds, Andrews is currently ranked No. 61 nationally by On3. He took official visits to all three of his top schools in June. Penn State has hosted him for five visits since last year, which is more than South Carolina and Wisconsin combined.
“I would say what separates Penn State is just their consistency and how they’ve recruited me since day one,” Andrews told BWI following his official visit. “They’ve been recruiting me hard. But also, just the conversations with their staff about my interest in playing the defensive side of the ball. Their flexibility with that, while also being real with me as well. Watching my film with them, they’re showing me I can actually play there, that I’m a good enough defensive lineman to do that.
“They came to my workouts to see how I can move, how I can bend. I think that really impressed them. But just their flexibility with that and how they’ve been real with me. They’ve never tried to bait me in or anything like that. I have a strong relationship with Coach Franklin, the head coach, down to their recruiting guys like Kenny Sanders and Khalil Ahmad. I feel like it’s a great family feel and that’s really important to me.”

Liam Andrews breaks down top three schools
South Carolina: “I like the recent success they have had against great competition. They have outperformed expectations, one could say, beating teams like Tennessee and Clemson. I love the culture Coach [Shane] Beamer has created in the program it is very family and relationship oriented. Finally, Coach [Travian] Robertson is a very good coach, especially when it comes to breaking down the small details of DL play he is also a great person.”
Penn State: “I love their emphasis on winning the Big 10 and a national championship. They finished seventh last season and I feel like they’re just a couple steps away for making a run for a national championship. I also love their defensive scheme and how it caters to my athletic and aggressive play style. Finally, I have begun to develop a good bond with Coach [Deion] Barnes and think he is a great man and coach.”
Wisconsin: “I like the success in the development of players Coach [Luke] Fickell and staff has had. I love the emphasis the program has on the big guys in the trenches. OL/DL play is taken very serious on their team. Finally, me and Coach [Greg] Scruggs have developed a great bond he has been recruiting me hard and is a great man and coach.”
