Penn State football news, notes, and updates for July 11 are heavily focused on recruiting as the Nittany Lions look to grow their Class of 2023. Running back London Montgomery is ready to decide, and a four-star put the program in his top group of schools over the weekend.

It’s time to review the top tweets and headlines about Penn State and college athletics on Monday.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with Montgomery. The four-star senior who is a member of the On300 will pick between Penn State, Virginia Tech, and Boston College at 5 p.m. ET this evening. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Lions are the runaway favorite to land the 5-foot-10, 180-pound ballcarrier.

“Something that stood out to me at Penn State was the strong connection between the players and the coaches,” Montgomery told BWI previously.

“They are very close. Another thing that stood out to me was that Coach [Ju’Juan] Seider made me feel like I was at home. I was very comfortable talking about anything with him and the rest of the staff.”

Next up is Jalen Thompson. A 6-foot-3, 240-pound defensive end from Detroit, Mich., Cass Tech, Thompson included Penn State in his top five. Ohio State, Cincinnati, Pitt, and Michigan State also made the cut. While the Spartans are the On3 RPM leader, Thompson’s only two official visits to date have been to see the Bearcats and Panthers. The Lions hope to host him later this month during the short quiet period before summer camp begins.

Finally, for this section, Penn State offered 2024 three-star Alabama safety Keion Dunlap over the weekend.

“We’re motivated. Of course, we’re motivated. We want to be the best team in the country. That’s our goal every day when we come in and go to work. But we’re not dwelling on last year. We know what we got to do. We know where we went wrong.”
