Four-star receiver Lex Cyrus decides today; will he pick Penn State?
Pennsylvania four-star receiver Lex Cyrus is ready to decide. The four-star receiver from Harrisburg Susquehanna Township will make his college decision known this afternoon. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound speedster is the nation’s No. 218 player overall and No. 27 receiver in the On3 Industry Rankings for the Class of 2025. On3’s own rankings are higher on the senior. They call him the No. 109 player in the cycle and the No. 16 receiver. Cyrus is about to make one school happy. Will it be Penn State? We preview his decision below.
Sizing up Cyrus’ recruitment
Cyrus’ recruitment has been ongoing since January of 2022. That’s when he reported his first FBS offer. It came from Connecticut. Fifteen other schools would also enter the race before an impressive camp performance in June of the same year led to Penn State extending an offer to Cyrus. Others who would eventually enter the mix include South Carolina, Miami, and Oregon.
Who are the finalists besides Penn State?
The receiver has whittled his list of suitors from 20-plus to two ahead of this afternoon’s announcement ceremony. Penn State is battling South Carolina to land the receiver. Those are the only two schools he took official visits to. It goes without saying due to proximity to home, but the Lions have a commanding lead on the visit sheet. Cyrus took seven trips to State College compared to just two to Columbia.
Cyrus discussed both schools in a May interview with BWI.
On Penn State:
“They keep telling me that I’m their guy and that they really want me. My relationship with them is really good. We’re always talking. All the time.
“They keep stressing to me that I’m a Penn State guy and keep telling me that I’m their top priority and that they don’t want to let me get away. They think I really fit the culture there as well and can be a guy who makes an impact.”

On South Carolina:
“With South Carolina, all the facilities and stuff are great, but they were really stressing what’s important to them, like family and their culture and being locked in. So, I learned that they have a fun team mentality and really make sure they’re bonding, but when it’s time to get on the field, they want you locked in. They were really showing me what ways I can help them and were breaking it down. They really did a great job showing me that it’s a place I want to be.”
How can I watch and follow the announcement?
Cyrus will hold an announcement ceremony at his school at 3 p.m. ET today. BWI’s Ryan Snyder and Greg Pickel will have live coverage on-site and also on The Lions Den message board.
