Decision day is here for Class of 2025 receiver Taz Williams Jr. The four-star receiver from Red Oak, Tex., is set to make his college choice later today. Penn State is one of the schools in the running for the 6-foot, 181-pound prospect. The On3 Industry Rankings call him the nation’s No. 311 player overall, No. 49 receiver, and No. 47 player in the state of Texas. Will he pick the Nittany Lions? We preview his decision below.

Sizing up Williams’ recruitment

Penn State cornerbacks coach and area recruiter Terry Smith kicked off the program’s recruitment of Williams when he offered him back on Aug. 22 2022. The Nittany Lions were the second program to join the race. Texas A&M was first to do so on Aug. 8 of that year. Since then, more than 50 schools entered the mix. This will be a well-researched decision. The On3 visit center tracked the receiver with 37 either unofficial or official visits during his recruitment. In-state programs SMU and Texas hosted him a recruitment-leading five times. Michigan, Texas A&M, and TCU all welcomed Williams to campus three times. And, the receiver took two trips to Penn State, Baylor, Georgia Tech, and Ohio State.

Who are the finalists besides Penn State?

Back on June 4, Williams set his commitment date for today. He listed Texas A&M, Michigan, Penn State, and SMU as his final four. He took official visits to all four programs across May and June. There are two big questions here. The first is whether or not the Aggies and Wolverines are still pushing for the receiver. And the second is where Baylor fits into the picture. Multiple outlets, including Blue-White Illustrated, have reported that Williams wants to visit the Bears later this month. This is despite the fact that he has not been on campus since February and did not use an official visit there in the spring or summer. So, the question is, will he commit to someone else today and visit Baylor before August? Or are the Bears not really a legitimate option? Time will tell.

Who leads in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine?

Michigan has a slight lead over Penn State entering the day on the On3 RPM. But, we don’t believe that is an accurate reflection of who he is truly deciding between, as noted above.
