Highlights of Penn State commit Anthony Donkoh from Under Armour camp
On Sunday, we saw one of the most loaded offensive and defensive line groups at the Under Armour Next camp in Baltimore in quite some time. One of those participants was three-star lineman from Lightridge high school in Virginia, Anthony Donkoh. Donkoh committed to Penn State at the end of January as part of a huge run of offensive line commits for the Nittany Lions. I caught up with Donkoh after the event to get a sense of where he is heading into his senior season.
Penn State commit Anthony Donkoh Highlights at UA Next Camp
Donkoh confirmed something evident from his junior season film; he’s an inexperienced pass-blocker. Improving that was his focus on Sunday, as it is for most offensive linemen at skills camps. While I was not present for every rep, it’s pretty clear that his best work came inside at guard. He struggled to block Penn State prospect Mason Robinson at left tackle during the individual drill portion to end the practice.

“It was tough going on the one-on-ones, but I feel like I gained some knowledge. It’s always good to gain some knowledge on these things,” Donkoh said afterwards.
The good news is that Donkoh is aware of his shortcoming and is working hard to correct them before his senior season. However, the Virginia native is a very raw prospect who may lack the technical knowledge to let his skill shine at the moment. Penn State offensive line coach Phil Trautwein is presumably banking on precisely that. On Tuesday’s BWI Daily Edition, recruiting insider Ryan Snyder explained that Penn State sees Donkoh as a tackle and wants him to play that position at the next level.

Donkoh’s considerable talents evident
While Donkoh doesn’t play like a tackle just yet, he certainly looks like one. The second most notable aspect of Sunday’s event was how impressive Donkoh is as an athlete. He was one of the most physically developed players at his position Sunday. That much was evident on tape, but the point drove home when he lined up next to his peers. While his movement skills can improve, it doesn’t seem to be a lack of ability to move but more an issue of body control.
The area of his game that he didn’t get to display on Sunday was his run-blocking abilities. He may lack some polish in his game as a pass protector, but Donkoh is a quality run-blocker on film. It’s equally important that he does it in a system similar to what Penn State runs.
