Penn State news, notes, and updates for Nov. 4 include updated College Football Playoff projections, headlines of the day, and more. It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the final CFP bracket projections that are not informed by the selection committee’s rankings. Its first top 25 of the year comes out on Tuesday. Before that, The Athletic gives the Lions an 88 percent chance to make the field and a 45 percent chance to host a first round game at Beaver Stadium. Its data model currently projects them to be the No. 7 seed and host No. 10 Tennessee. Heather Dinich at ESPN puts the Lions at No. 7, as well.

” Penn State doesn’t play Oregon or Indiana, so it just missed its best chance to impress the selection committee and now it needs help to get into the Big Ten championship game,” she writes. “The most likely scenario is PSU competing for an at-large bid and a first-round home game if it’s seeded 5-8. The Nittany Lions won’t face another ranked opponent during the regular season, so it would help them this month to earn convincing wins.”

At On3, Ari Wasserman puts the Lions at No. 6 following their first loss of the season.

“The narrative around Penn State is going to be about how James Franklin can’t win the big one after it lost to Ohio State in front of a record crowd Saturday,” he writes. “There is no avoiding it. But in the 12-team era of the College Football Playoff, this loss doesn’t knock the Nittany Lions off track for other goals. It’s going to need help to get into the Big Ten title game, but not all is lost. The glass-half-full view? Penn State was two yards away from tying the game against the Buckeyes with less than six minutes remaining on the clock. Penn State fans may be down in the dumps, but this is a very good football team that still has a chance to win in December.”

Quote of the day

“It comes down to the little things that caught up with us today. Playing behind the sticks is something we don’t want to do against a talented team against a good defensive coordinator, schematically. We just gotta go back tot the drawing board and reflect on the things that we did well, things that we didn’t do well. And then come away from it and make the corrections, flush it tomorrow night, and move on.
