How many consensus All-Americans will Penn State have? Abdul Carter is now one step closer, but Tyler Warren is not
Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter is a first-team Walter Camp Football All-American. The junior earned the honor during Thursday night’s college football awards show on ESPN. The Walter Camp team is one of five recognized by the NCAA. If a player makes at least half of them, he is considered a consensus All-American. The last Nittany Lion to earn that honor was offensive tackle Olu Fashanu in 2023. He is the 44th consensus All-American in Penn State history.
Carter aims to be the 45th. Nittany Lions’ star tight end Tyler Warren aims to be a consensus All-American, as well. But, he was not the Walter Camp first-team tight end. That spot went to Bowling Green’s Harold Fannin Jr., even if Warren won the Mackey Award earlier in the night, which is given to the nation’s top tight end. Warren is on the second team. The Walter Camp teams are voted on by “134 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors,” according to its website.
The five lists that make up the consensus All-American team come from the Walter Camp, the Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association, Sporting News, and the Football Writers Association of America. It is currently unclear when the other four organizations will release their teams. But, Carter will have to end up on two more of them to be a consensus All-American while Warren will need to make at least three of them.

Warren and Carter were named USA Today first-team All-Americans. Both have made the Senior Bowl’s first-team All-American list, as well. Warren, a Virginia native, is the Big Ten tight end of the year. Carter, who hails from Maryland, took both the league’s and The Associated Press’ Big Ten defensive player of the year honors.
Penn State also had another award winner on Thursday night
Penn State center Nick Dawkins is the 2024 Wuerffel Trophy winner. It is college football’s top honor for community service and work away from the gridiron. He is the Nittany Lions’ first honoree for the award that has been given out since 2005.
