Final X is here. The Team USA lineup for the 2025 World Wrestling Championships, which will be held this September in Zagreb, Croatia, will mostly be set today in Newark, N.J. Eighteen matches — nine on the men’s freestyle side and nine on the women’s freestyle side– will be held to determine who will start. And Penn State will be well represented.

One women’s team spot is already decided, as Alex Glaude received the 72 kilogram spot after Amit Elor withdrew for medical reasons earlier this week. On the men’s side, its final spot will be determined at a wrestle-off in Fargo, N.D., later this year between Vito Aruja and Jax Forrest after the former requested and received a delay of their 61-kilogram final for medical reasons.

As for who will be competing, Penn State and the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club have competitors in seven of the nine men’s freestyle matches on the card. And, two representatives are in true third-place matches for backup spots on the national team.

What is Final X

If you’re reading this, there is a very good chance you already know. But, in the event you do not, Final X is the name of the event that USA Wrestling uses to set its senior world team. Competitors qualified for it by either being a returning medalist, winning the U.S. Open back in April, or winning the World Team Trials in May.

Each match is a best-of-three series. The winner represents Team USA at Worlds, while the loser is, obviously, the alternate but still gets access to national team resources.

What time does it start, and how can I watch?

True third matches start at 12:30 p.m. ET. Round one of the best-of-three championship series starts at 2 p.m. ET. Second and third (if necessary) round matches then start at 5 p.m. ET.

FLO Wrestling is streaming the event. Learn more about its subscription options here.

Which Penn State wrestlers are competing?

There are a total of nine across the true third-place matches, where the winner of each will make the Team USA as a backup, and the championship matches.

Incoming freshman Marcus Blaze is in the 65-kilogram true third match against Nebraska’s Brock Hardy. And, Carter Starocci is in the 86-kilogram true third competition opposite Northern Iowa’s Parker Keckeisen. Their matches are second and last, respectively, on the five-match true third card.
