How to watch Penn State football opposite Northwestern: Time, channel, streaming info, and more
No. 6 Penn State faces 2-2 Northwestern on Saturday at Ryan Field. It marks the 21st meeting between the two schools. The Nittany Lions are 15-5 all-time against the Wildcats and are riding a two-game winning streak in the series. Head coach James Franklin’s team was last in Evanston, Ill., in 2017, when it won 31-7. This year, the team is more than a three-touchdown favorite.
“They’re a no-huddle offense that really — they can run tempo, but they’re more kind of the illusion of tempo so they can see how you line up and then get to the plays they want to run.,” Franklin said Tuesday. “They base mainly out of 11 personnel. They want to throw the ball. I think that’s where they feel like they have the best chance to be successful.
“I do think Ben Bryant, their quarterback, is probably the best pure thrower that we’ve seen this year. He’s a four-time transfer, which is strange. Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, then back to Cincinnati and now Northwestern. Also impressed with A.J. Henning and then obviously their wide receiver Bryce Kirtz.”
During his own pregame news conference, Northwestern interim head coach David Braun praised the Penn State defense.
“They’re aggressive,” Braun said. “They’re balanced. You can’t find a weakness on that defense. Really well-coached. Willing to play tight coverage. Mix in some different looks. Put stress on you on first and second down.”
