Penn State football has released new information about its Beaver Stadium renovation plan. Construction began in 2024, took another step forward with the press box felling back in January, and is now full-speed ahead on completing any work that it can before the 2025 season starts. And, speaking of that, one big question from fans is how the construction will impact seating, stadium capacity, parking, tailgating, and more this fall. We now have some of those answers.
“We are thrilled to share our plans for the west side of our Beaver Stadium Revitalization,” Penn State athletic director Pat Kraft said in a released statement. “This project is not just a project for football, it is one that will impact all 31 sports teams at Penn State, our campus community and the Centre Region for years to come.”
See the latest renovation rendering HERE. One thing that is not covered in Thursday’s announcement is what the stadium will look like this year. But, we do have some details. Read on to learn everything we know now ahead of the 2025 season below.
Is Penn State adding temporary seating for the upcoming season?
It is. Per the school’s FAQ website, 7,900 temporary bleachers will be installed on the west side of the stadium. Concessions and restrooms will be put in place, too.
Will parking and tailgating be impacted by the construction this fall?
If things go according to the plan, neither football parking nor tailgating will change because of the construction.
“The construction footprint will be expanded during the off-season but will shrink to accommodate football game day parking in-season,” Penn State says.

What do I do if my seats are on the upper west side?
Penn State says season tickets holders who are impacted by the renovation will “be able to choose seats in the new temporary seating or may select from any other available seats in the stadium.” The athletic department adds:
“Current season ticket holders need only to wait for information to be sent directly to them about the upcoming seat selection process. Details on the different seating options and instructions for participating in the process will be provided soon.”
A timeline for that information to come out is not available as of Feb. 13.
What is Penn State saying about the stadium’s capacity?
Penn State has said from the start that it intends not to reduce capacity once the renovations are complete. However, it goes without saying that the famed 107,000 figure will be affected by the work over the next few seasons. At this point, all we know is that the school intends to keep capacity over 100,000 during the renovation process. A final figure is not yet available.
Is the student section changing during the renovation?
Here is what Penn State said:
“We are committed to maintaining the student seating capacity. However, the layout (i.e. sections utilized) of the student section may be adjusted as part of the renovation.”
More details will come out at a later date.
