Where was Penn State specialist Jordan Stout picked in the 2022 NFL Draft?
Penn State has not had a punter taken in the NFL Draft since John Bruno in 1987. Its last kicker to be selected was David Kimball in 2004.
Neither Nittany Lion is now the answer to a trivia question about when the last Penn State specialist was drafted, however. That honor now belongs to Jordan Stout.
The multi-threat kicker/punter/kickoff specialist was taken with the 130th overall pick in Round 4 of the 2022 Draft by the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday. His pro journey is now underway.
“There’s a lot of good punters in the league,” Stout recently told Pro Football Network.
“There’s a lot of good kickers in the league. But, there aren’t a lot of people who are great at both. I’ve always prided myself as a combo guy. I’ve figured out how to do all three at a high level.”
Tracing Stout’s path to the NFL
Stout is one of two Penn State draftees who did not start his career in State College.
In fact, the Cedar Bluff, Va., Honaker product kicked off his college career at Virginia Tech. After two years there, however, he joined the Lions. Stout would eventually become the Penn State record holder for single-season and career punting average. He was a Ray Guy Award finalist in 2021 and the Big Ten punter of the year during his final season in blue and white.

Over three seasons in State College, Stout was 34 of 36 on extra point attempts and 20 of 31 on field goal tries. His career-long was a 57-yard boot against Pittsburgh in 2019. And, his almost endless touchbacks routinely set Penn State’s defense up with preferred field position over the last couple of seasons.
In the NFL, Stout figures to be primarily a punter. But, there is no question that his ability to perform in all three areas will help him stick in the pros for a long time.
By the way, the other Penn State player who was drafted after transferring in is defensive end Arnold Ebiketie. He landed with the Atlanta Falcons in Round 2 at No. 38.
Scouting report on Penn State specialist Jordan Stout
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com had this to say about Stout:
“Handled both kicking and punting duties but will be a full-time punter at the next level. Stout combines quality power with outstanding touch to flip fields and throw darts depending upon his positioning. He hangs the ball up to limit returns and rarely boots it into the end zone. He’s consistent and works with quick operation time. He has the makings of a steady, long-term NFL punter.”
