In a press conference on Friday morning, Penn State officially introduced its new athletic director, former Boston College AD Patrick Kraft. Afterward, BWI Daily Edition host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Dave Eckert shared their thoughts about the event outside of Beaver Stadium. On the current issues with name, image and likeness,

“What I’ve learned in the past year is that there’s a lot of sharks in the water and they’re attacking. We have to protect our athletes because there are a lot of things happening that candidly I don’t agree with. I think the NIL legislation is great. I’m a believer in it. I think athletes should absolutely have the opportunity to monetize their name, image, and likeness.”

Kraft emphazied community in his opening remarks, specifically about where athletics fits into the overall picture,

“It’s an institution that is steeped in traditions, in core values of academics, respect, and integrity. It’s an institution that is famously known for the largest alumni base in the country and I would say the most passionate alumni base in the country. The We Are community is powerful. The State College community is powerful. Penn State has it all. We in athletics are a piece of that.”

On his desire for Penn State athletes to have it all,

“Make no bones about it; I’m here to win. I’m here to win, and we are going to win. We’re going to add to the 80 national championships and the 303 conference championships. We will do it with integrity, we’ll do it with hard work, grittiness, toughness, and we’re’ going to do it with passion. But we are going to win. We’re going to continue to win.
