Is Penn State-Michigan State wrestling on TV? Time, projected lineups, more
Penn State wrestling returns to the mat today. After knocking out No. 11 Michigan on Friday, head coach Cael Sanderson’s team will battle Michigan State on Sunday in East Lansing. It marks the only weekend this year where the Lions compete on both Friday and Sunday, which is rare compared to past Bgi Ten schedules.
“I think it’s unusual,” Sanderson said on Tuesday. “I kind of just think when we get to the Big Ten, it’s always Friday, Sunday, Friday, Sunday, like multiple weekends in a row. We were just talking about that the other day, actually. I mean, we do have a Friday, I think we’re at Iowa, and then we’re back here on Monday with Rutgers. So you know, that’s a trip to the Midwest and back. So that’ll be similar. But yeah, I think the two matches in a row is good for us because it gets your guys ready to make weight multiple days in a row.
“So wherever you’re at, we just got to find the positive in the opportunity or challenge however you look at it. But yeah, we don’t have a lot of these opportunities to wrestle back-to-back. So, we want to make sure, I think it would be good preparation for us and our weight management.”
MSU is coming off of a Friday night loss to Rutgers.
“Obviously we came up on the short end of it tonight,” said head coach Roger Chandler. “I told our guys in the locker room; they had a choice to either let up after last week or put their foot to the floor, and they stepped up. This team is getting better every time they step on the mat, there were some toss up matches that we could have won. Our guys found a way to be in matches and be in a position to win.”

What are the top bouts to watch?
Friday’s match with the Wolverines featured numerous hotly-contested bouts. This one will not. Michigan State has some talent but is not deep across the board and will suffer bonus point defeats in more than a few matches. That said, there is one doozy on the docket. Entering the weekend, Penn State’s Mitchell Mesenbrink sat at No. 9 at 165 pounds. Spartan Caleb Fish sits at No. 10. It will be a great test for both wrestlers as they aim to earn their spot in the pecking order in that weight class ahead of Big Tens and nationals later this year.
