Penn State continues its 2025 season on Saturday when FIU comes to Beaver Stadium. Both sides are 1-0, as the Panthers dispatched Bethune-Cookman last Friday before the Lions blasted Nevada on Saturday in State College.

“You look at the stat sheet, a lot of guys touched the ball and they’ve earned the right to do that, to get in the game and make plays,” Simmons said, per SI. “We have a couple of plays on our call sheet where we can directly get the ball to somebody, but for the most part, we’re just calling plays and whoever is open, it’s nice job to find an open guy.”

On defense, linebacker Johnny Chaney Jr., had a team-high eight tackles and forced a fumble.

FIU is fourth in ESPN’s FPI for Conference USA. The projected spread based on SP+ is Penn State -29.5.

Early Penn State-FIU storylines

–Will either Zuriah Fisher or Zion Tracy be back for the Lions? Both missed the opener for undisclosed reasons that are believed to be health-related. Both were on the field during pregame festivities, with the latter actually going through warmups, but neither saw the field.

–Can the Lions create more explosive plays this week? James Franklin lamented his team’s lack of them in the opener. Penn State should have more room to run against the Panthers. Will it be able to take advantage of it?

–Can the Lions be more dominant up front along the offensive line? And who will be the star of the defense like Dani Dennis-Sutton was in the Nevada game?
