It’s time to dive into Friday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the latest news from the football transfer portal. Former Wake Forest corner Gavin Holmes has plans to visit Penn State on an official visit in January. He currently plans to be on campus Jan. 7-8. That is during a dead period for high school and most transfer recruits. But, graduate transfers who plan to enroll early can take trips then.

In other portal news, a new receiver offer went out on Thursday. The Lions are casting a wide net at the position, and most recently entered the race for former NC State redshirt junior Devin Carter. He had 25 receptions for 406 yards and two scores in 2022 but missed time due to injury.

In other news, a new Penn State basketball offer is out. Head coach Micah Shrewsberry’s team joined the race for Bloomington, Ill., Class of 2024 shooting guard Cole Certa. It’s his second Big Ten offer after Northwestern offered previously.

Finally, for this section, Class of 2024 Penn State football target Jerrae Hawkins, who is from Wheeling, W.Va., is transferring to IMG Academy in Florida to continue his football, track, and academic pursuits at the next level.

Quote of the day

“I think he’s a very special kid. His story is incredible. He came here as a basketball player, started playing football and now here we are. He’s extremely humble and comes from a great family.

“But he just has those things that you can’t teach. He takes his academics serious. He’s a phenomenal teammate and a weight room warrior. God blessed him, making him 6-foot-5, 240 pounds. He has great length, great twitch and is an explosive athlete.”

–St. Thomas More head coach Ernest Anderson to BWI about recent PSU commit Joseph Mupoyi.
