Penn State news, notes, and updates for Feb. 8 include the latest national title odds, plus more of what we learned from the Lions’ first media session of 2023 and more.
It’s time to dive into Wednesday’s top tweets and headlines about PSU and college athletics.
Penn State tweets of the day
We start with the latest national title odds. Circa Sports released an updated look at its 2023-2024 college football champion betting board on Wednesday. Penn State has the seventh-best odds at 23-1. Georgia leads the way at about 2-to-1. Alabama (6-1), Ohio State (6.5-1), Michigan (8-1), LSU (12-1), and USC (14-1) round out the top six.
In other news, numerous media outlets have takeaways and more from the first Penn State media event of 2023. It included podium news conferences with head coach James Franklin and new receivers coach Marques Hagans plus interviews with members of the program’s Class of 2023.
Cory Giger of DKPittburghSports focused on what Franklin had to say about his lone offseason on-field staff change. He writes:
“Franklin doesn’t get into explaining personnel decisions, really at all. So, it was probably too much to expect him to offer insight into why he made the switch in firing wide receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield and replacing him with Marques Hagans from Virginia.

“Franklin was asked about the move Tuesday, and didn’t budge on addressing anything regarding Stubblefield.
“At this point, we may never find out what happened with Stubblefield, and whether he was fired for recruiting reasons, on-field development reasons or something else.”
Mark Wogenrich of SI, meanwhile, focused on the program’s push to fill an obvious leadership void. Every team captain from last year is now off to the NFL.
