Penn State football news, notes, and updates for July 8 include a recap of a tough day on the recruiting trail for the Lions plus a new On3 database that focuses on name, image, and likeness.

It’s time to dive into the top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college football on Friday.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a recap of everything that happened over the last 24 hours in the Penn State recruiting world.

The Lions experienced a tidal wave of bad, or at least less than ideal, news over the span of roughly 90 minutes. At 4:04 p.m., longtime quarterback commit Marcus Stokes surprisingly flipped to Florida. Then, around 4:30 p.m. four-star Virginia athlete Cam Seldon picked Tennessee as expected. Finally, to top it all off, four-star Jacksonville, Fla., four-star running back Treyaun Webb also picked the Gators. He was down to either the SEC school or Penn State.

Head coach James Franklin and co., must now recalibrate their recruiting board. It will be hardest to do that at quarterback, as almost all of the players they have offered are committed elsewhere. Running back could be easiest, as four-star Scranton Prep back London Montgomery is still on the board and is expected to announce next Monday. So, stay tuned, and expect next week to be a better one on the trail, Lions fans.

In other news, On3 launched its new NIL database on Thursday. New features include a deal tracker, news on collectives, rules for high school and college athletes, plus much more.
