A handful of Penn State’s committed players in the Class of 2025 made significant moves in On3’s Industry Rankings Wednesday following 247Sports’ updated player ratings.

The top three players in Penn State’s class all made positive moves upwards, but it’s linebacker LaVar Arrington II who made the most significant move, climbing 128 spots to No. 270 overall. The Covina, Calif., native has totaled 22 tackles, 12 quarterback hurries and 5.5 sacks through seven games this season. However, it’s not just his film that both scouts and his coaches have noticed this fall.

“You can really see the work he put in this offseason as far as the weight room goes,” said Charter Oak head coach Dom Farrar in an interview last week discussing Arrington’s season. “His motor right now and his overall speed, you can see he’s gotten better there. His short-area quickness and burst was always second to none.

“But just watching him now, you can see how much more physical he’s become at the point of attack. When he makes contact with the quarterback, he looks like a grown man playing a kids’ game at our level. For the lack of a better word, he’s just violent. I’ve watched quarterbacks continually get hit by him and he just demoralizes them mentally and physically.”

Kansas native Jayden Woods also made a significant move upwards, climbing 60 spots to No. 141 nationally. Through six games, Woods has been excellent for Mill Valley, totaling 48 tackles, 4.5 sacks and one interception. He’s also now the second-ranked player in Penn State’s class. Woods was previously fifth overall in the class.

Other notable moves include offensive tackle Malachi Goodman. The New Jersey native was already Penn State’s top-ranked player in the class, but this most recent update moved him up 23 spots in the rankings to No. 108 nationally. Cornerback Daryus Dixson also moved up 11 spots to No. 148 overall, while wide receiver Lyrick Samuel climbed nearly 30 spots to No. 414. If Samuel is able to crack the Top 400 in the Industry Rankings before signing day, he’ll ultimately end up a four-star player.

Understanding On3’s Team Rankings

Today’s update didn’t impact Penn State’s position in the overall team rankings, as the Nittany Lions remain at No. 16 nationally and No. 5 in the Big Ten. For those unfamiliar with On3’s Team Rankings, there are two major differences compared to other sites that you need to know.

1) We use the Industry Rankings, which puts together all four major recruiting sites – On3, 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN – to find a cumulative score for each prospect. It’s not just based on On3’s rankings.

2) On3’s Team Recruiting Rankings solve the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle by totaling the highest-rated commitments for each team based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power Four schools. Currently, that average sits at 17.
