STATE COLLEGE — Penn State football is holding its annual Blue-White game this afternoon. The annual spring scrimmage is the team’s 15th and final practice until preseason camp. It starts at 2 p.m. ET. There is no television coverage. But, Blue-White Illustrated will provide running commentary including the latest score, stats, plays of note, and more below. Team White 10, Team Blue 8 after four quarters

Team White eighth drive
04/26/2025 02:33:02 PMCorey Smith runs for six and Team Blue calls a timeout with :50 left. Ethan Grunkemeyer is under center. Smith runs again and Team Blue again calls timeout. Jack Lambert is in at quarterback now. Smith is stopped in the backfield on third down by Braz Thomas. Team White will go for it on 4th and 10 at its own 23 because why not? Before the snap though, there’s a penalty on Team White. It’s now fourth and forever. And it’s over.
Team Blue sixth drive
04/26/2025 02:26:28 PMTeam Blue trails Team White 10-9 with 2:51 left. It takes over at its own 33. Drew Allar is back under center. Quinton Martin Jr., is bottled up quickly. They wanted a quick throw back to Martin on second down but it never materialized. It’s 3rd and 9 at the Blue 34 at the two-minute warning. Allar hits Schalffer for a few but it’s still fourth down and 5 at the 39 with 1:54 to go. Quinton Martin Jr., is wide open out of the backfield and scurries up field for 14 to the 46 for a first down. Allar evades pressure on first down and hits Josiah Brown who is POPPED by Daryus Dixson, but not after a gain of 18 and a first down.
Team Blue has 1st and 10 at the White 28 with 1:32 to go. After a throw away and gain of one, Finn Furmanek catches it and fumbles. Team White takes over up 10-0 at their own 24 with 1:01 to go.
Team White seventh series
04/26/2025 02:23:20 PMIt starts at its own 5 with 5:01 to play. Jaxon Smolik is under center. Corey Smith carries for just a couple. A quick flip to Koby Howard on second down is stopped quickly. It’s 3rd and 8 at the 7. Before that though, there is a false start. On 3rd and 11, Smolik is forced to throw it away. A punt is upcoming with 3:09 to go. Josiah Brown fields it.
Team Blue fifth series
04/26/2025 02:18:30 PMIt starts at the 35 with 8:54 to go. Grunkemeyer is running this series for Team Blue. He runs for four to start this series. Tikey Hayes then rips off a first down run of six. Grunkemeyer has time to throw but takes too much of it and is sack by Mylachi Williams. Then takes a delay of game. The next play is a handoff to Hayes for just a few. On 3rd and 16 from the 41, Grunkemeyer’s pass toward Brown is incomplete thanks to a Daryus Dixson pass breakup. Punt time with 5:24 left. Tyseer Denmark is back to receive it.
Team White sixth series
04/26/2025 02:12:33 PMA fumbled snap for Grunkemeyer starts this series. On second down at the 24, Grunkemeyer hits Denmark across the middle for a huge gain. That’ll end the third quarter on a gain of 31. Team White has it at the Team Blue 45 when the fourth quarter starts.
The first snap of the fourth quarter is a short Tyler Holzworth carry. Grunkemeyer then hits Denmark for a few to set up third and 6. The pair then connect again for a gain of 12 and a first down. Team White is now up to the Team Blue 29. There’s a fumble on the next play and Team Blue recovers it. It rolled right to Anthony Speca.
Team Blue fourth series
04/26/2025 02:01:34 PMVaboue Toure blows up Quiton Martin Jr., in the backfield for no gain to start this drive. Allar has all kinds of time on second down and hits Kyron Hudson for 15 and a first down. They’re up to the 41. Quinton Martin Jr., has a nice run on second down but it’s coming back for holding. More sloppy play from Team Blue. He makes some of it back on a quick swing pass for 9. Darysu Dixson knocks a ball out of Devonte Ross’ hands on second down. On 3rd and 11 at the 40, Allar has time to wait for Ross come open over the middle for a big gain of 15.
Tikey Hayes takes the next snap for a few before he’s up-ended by Dixson. On 2nd and 7 from the 41, Hudson sits down in the zone and picks up a gain of 22 to the White 19. Ross takes a first down reverse for 10 and another first down. Team Blue is up to the Team White 9. Martin Jr., takes the first down carry for a couple. On 2nd and goal, Allar takes a wide snap and hands it to Martin, who is met immediately. It’s 3rd and goal from the six. Martin Jr., takes a carry up the middle for five. It’s fourth and goal at the one. Allar takes the shotgun snap and Martin Jr., battles his way in for a touchdown. Team Blue will go for two to tie it up. Allar can only throw it out of the back of the end zone.
Team White 10, Team Blue 9 with 1:00 left in the third quarter.
Team White fifth series
04/26/2025 01:58:52 PMThe second half is underway. Jaxon Smolik is under center. They’ll tackle in this session. No gain on first down. Smolik completes a short pass to Koby Howard for a few. On third down, Smolik hits Howard for four, and it leads to a three and out for Team White. Devonte Ross is up first as the punt returner.
Team White fourth series
04/26/2025 01:45:37 PMIt takes over at its own 36 with 50 seconds left. Grunkemeyer is back under center. He’s sacked on first down. 2nd and 14 turns into 2nd and 19 due to a false start. Smolik takes off on a keeper and gets but it’s not enough for a first down. His next pass does move the chains. It’s 1st and 10 with 27 seconds left for Team White at its own 43. Smolik is first to fire it out of bounds with the pass rush bearing down. With 22 seconds left now, on 2nd and 10, Smolik takes off up the middle for a big gain into Team Blue territory. Team White has it at the Team Blue 41 with 12 seconds left. Smolik is sacked on 2nd down by Jaylen Harvey. The final snap of the half is a Smolik pass that Elliot Washington II dropped for a pick.

Team Blue third series
04/26/2025 01:42:55 PMIt starts with 1:54 left in the first half. Drew Allar pitches it late to Kaytron Allen who storms up the middle for seven. Allar then dumps it off to Allen on the next play for a first down. Khalil Dinkins catches one over the middle next for a short gain with 1:12 left. It’s 2nd and 6. Singleton takes the next carry for a a. loss of one. And then, Vaboue Toure picks off Allar’s pass. Ugly series there for the starters.
Team White second series
04/26/2025 01:35:54 PMJaxon Smolik is under center. He carries on first down for a few. Tyler Holzworth loses two on second down. On 3rd down, Smolik scrambles for a big gain. It’s good for 15 yards and a first down. On first down, Smolik hits freshman Koby Howard over the middle for seven yards. On second down, Smolik avoid pressure and hits Amiel Davis for 14 and a first down. Davis gets no where on first down at the 43. He again carries for a few. It’s 3rd and 8. Team White doesn’t get a play off before the two minute warning. They have it at the Blue 40 facing 3rd and 8. When play resumes, Smolik airs it out deep to Lyrick Samuel for a 40-yard touchdown.

Team Blue second series
04/26/2025 01:24:58 PMBig gain for Liam Clifford to kick this one off. He picks up 14 and a first down. He catches a pass on the next play, too, for a gain of six. On 2nd and 4, Kaytron Allen can only get a couple, setting up 3rd and 2. Clifford takes that snap on a reverse for a first down and gain of a few. Team Blue is now out toward midfield. On first down, Allar hits Devonte Ross on an out for a big gain. It’s good for 19. Kaytron Allen then loses a yard. And that’s the end of the first quarter. It’s Team White 3, Team Blue 2. Team Blue has 2nd and 11 at the White 34 when the second quarter starts.
To start the second quarter, with 2nd and 11 at the 34, Singleton carries for a couple. Nice cheer for LaVar Arrington II’s first tackle of the day. On 3rd and 9, Clifford carries for only a couple of yards. Team Blue will go for it on 4th and 1. Singleton shoots through the left side of the line and picks it up.
On first and 10 at the White 21, Allar’s pass is behind Hudson and incomplete. On 2nd and 10, Allar rolls out with Ross as a pitch option but keeps it for few to set up 3rd and 6. Allar’s third down pass to Hudson is off the mark. Field goal time.
Ryan Barker’s 34-yard field goal is no good wide left. Team White 3, Team Blue 2 with 6:53 to go in the half.
Team White first drive
04/26/2025 01:17:21 PMIt starts at the 25. Ethan Grunkemeyer is up first. He hands off to Corey Smith, who is quickly tagged down by Ty Blanding at the line of scrimmage. Zuriah Fisher jumps offisdes on second down, setting up 2nd and 5. Corey Smith runs for a short gain setting up 3rd and 2. Again, these THUD periods aren’t great for the running backs as they don’t get a chance to make defenders miss or break contact. On 3rd and 2, Grunkemeyer rolls out and hits Joey Schalffer for a first down on a gain of 15. They’re up to their own 48 now.
On first down, Grunkemeyer hits Smith for five. On the next play at the 47, Grunkemeyer hits Lyrick Samuel, who spins away for Elliot Washington for a 16 yard gain and first down at the Blue 31. The next play is a rush for zero yards by Smith. On 2nd down, Grunkemeyer hits Schlaffer for six, setting up 3rd and 4. On that, Grunk keeps it for no gain.
It’s field goal time. Freshman Matthew Parker’s 36-yard kick is good. Team White 3, Team Blue 2, with 3:33 left in the first quarter.
Team Blue first drive
04/26/2025 01:17:15 PMDrew Allar’s first pass intended for Kyron Hudson is incomplete on a roll out. The second play is a three-yard run for Nick Singleton that probably would have gone for a lot more if this were live. On 3rd and 7, Allar scrambled for just two yards. And that’s it for the first series. Riley Thompson punts it away. Tyseer Denmark is the first punt returner for Team White.
Now it’s kickoff competition time
04/26/2025 01:12:27 PMEach team can earn points for a “good” kickoff. Gabe Nwosu is up first. He booms his through the end zone for a point. Ryan Barker’s went out of bounds. So just one point so far for Team Blue. Matthew Parker did not gain a point for Team White with his boot. Gabe Nwosu’s second boot was also through the end zone. So Team Blue leads Team White 2-0 heading into the first quarter. It’ll be 11 minutes long, and a running clock.
7-on-7 work is underway
04/26/2025 01:08:22 PMDrew Allar’s first series for Team Blue featured a couple of completions to Khalil Dinkins, a couple of dump offs to the running backs, and a deep incompletion to Devonte Ross. Now it’s Team White’s turn to take the field. Jaxon Smolik is the first QB up for the White team. Smolik completed a pass to Lyrick Samuel before giving way to Ethan Grunkemeyer.

Blue-White game logistics
04/26/2025 11:13:00 AMThere will be a pre-game kickoff competition. From there, each quarter will be 11 minutes long. The clock runs except for the final two minutes of each half. Then, traditional timing takes over. The first half will be THUD, which is wrapping up the ball carrier but not taking him to the ground. Second half action will be live. Each team has two timeouts. And, all special teams work is on air.
