Recap: Penn State-Indiana score, stats, news, and more
Penn State opens the November portion of its schedule today at Indiana. Oddsmakers are calling the Lions about a two touchdown favorite. Some books have the line listed right at 14. Others are hanging 14.5. And, the betting total over/under is 51.5 points.
Weather will be a factor. As of this post’s time, the forecast is “Windy with morning showers evolving to a steady, soaking rain for the afternoon hours. High near 65F. Winds SSW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 70%. Higher wind gusts possible.” Kicking may be close to impossible if those wind gusts sustain.
“I wouldn’t say it necessarily determines our game plans or things like that, but it is something to be aware of,” Penn State coach James Franklin said Thursday. “If you look at the weather in Bloomington, you got anything from one of the nicest days you can imagine in terms of this time of year. But there are also reports now of possible rain and wind that we’re gonna have to factor in.
“We’ve played in some of those games already this year, so we’ll be fine either way. But I wouldn’t say it necessarily dictates our game plan, but it’s something we need to be aware of.”
Added Hoosiers’ defensive coordinator Chad Wilts:
“We need to make progress in our run defense and our run fits and execution with our defensive line and linebackers understanding run fits. We have become more comfortable and confident as a unit with our assignments. Even last week when you head into the bye week it’s a development time.
“We had some time towards Penn State to look ahead but more of the focus was on us and we spent a lot of time on that, the run defense side and development side because it’s the end of the season and you got to keep those guys coming along because guys get hurt, guys get banged up but those guys returning or if guys go out, guys have to be able to step up. We’re seeing that depth improve and grow and at the fundamental understandings.”
