Recap: Penn State-Maryland score, stats, notes, and more
STATE COLLEGE — No. 14 Penn State welcomes Maryland to Beaver Stadium today for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. It is the Lions’ penultimate home game and its third-to-last contest of the regular season. FOX is televising the matchup with Tim Brando and Spencer Tillman on the call.
“I told our team, it’s not a rivalry game,” Maryland coach Mike Locksley said. “We have to compete a little better to get it to that point.
“Right now, they’re a regional team that comes into our area to recruit. There are a lot of natural relationships because of the location of both universities, but other than that, it’s Penn State vs. Maryland. I can tell you that our guys are excited about this opportunity to go up there and play. I’m excited. It’s an opportunity to see where we line up and see how we have progressed when it comes to the Big Ten.”
He later added:
“We’ve played in tough environments,” he said. “That’s what you sign up for when you play in the Big Ten, to go to these tough environments. I know our players are excited about the opportunity, just like I am. We’re looking forward to getting up there to compete.”

Penn State has injury issues to deal with at numerous spots. Linebacker Curtis Jacobs was out early on the turf before the rest of the team even arrived working out with the trainers. With or without him, the Penn State defense must contend with Terps quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa.
“He’s always been an athletic guy and a guy that can create and extend plays,” Penn State coach James Franklin said. He can make all the throws. His accuracy has gotten better, his touchdown to interception ratio has gotten better. From a system standpoint, they’ve done a really good job of putting him in a position to be successful. And also, recruiting well around him. He’s got a bunch of weapons around him.
“Like a lot of quarterbacks, he just continues to get better with experience.”
