PHILADELPHIA — Penn State entered the Friday night session at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships with seven semifinalists. Only three are going to the finals. Mitchell Mesenbrink (165 pounds), Carter Starocci (184), and Josh Barr (197) will wrestle for first place Saturday night. Their seven other teammates are all also All-Americans (a top-eight finish guarantees that), making the Lions the second team with 10 in NCAA history, but each can only finish as high as third place.

Losing in the semifinals were Beau Bartlett (141), Shayne Van Ness (149), Levi Haines (174), and Greg Kerkvliet (285). They join Luke Lilledahl (125), Braeden Davis (133), and Tyler Kasak (157) in the consolation bracket. That trio went six-for-six on Friday night to stay alive for a chance at third.

The medal round begins with consolation semifinals at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. The winner of those bouts go for third. The losers wrestler for fifth. As for the three finalists, they go for gold at 7 p.m. tomorrow night.
