Penn State football news, notes, and updates for Aug. 26 include more season predictions for the Nittany Lions, headlines of the day, and more. It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and stories about head coach James Franklin’s program and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

ESPN analysts Kirk Herbstreit and Nick Saban released their College Football Playoff predictions over the weekend. We start there. Herbstreit has the Nittany Lions in the inaugural 12-team field. The longtime color commentator has them as the No. 8 seed, which would equal a first-round home game opposite No. 9 Notre Dame. Saban, meanwhile, has Penn State in as the No. 9 seed and taking a trip to No. 8 Ole Miss in the first round. The Rebels, of course, knocked out PSU in last season’s Peach Bowl in Atlanta.

“I think Penn State has a really good team and a good culture,” Saban said on ESPN’s College GameDay. “They would’ve been in the 12-team playoff the last couple of years.”

The Nittany Lions open the 2024 season at West Virginia. Head coach James Franklin’s team is an 8.5-point favorite. Kickoff is set for Noon ET on FOX.

Quote of the day

“It’s a great thing anytime you have guys with various skill sets complement each other. Guys that they have to deal with on both sides affects their ability for them not to be able to slide the protection to one guy. That’s what’s obviously going to give that other guy opportunity. So I think the complement is huge.

“I think that those two guys are going to play well off each other without question. And we need them to, no doubt about it, so. I think they’re both special players and I’m expecting big things from them.”
