New Penn State Beaver Stadium welcome center to be named after the Lubert family following $10 million gift
Penn State Athletics announced another gift toward its Beaver Stadium renovation on Thursday. This one goes toward a new area that is being created within the currently 107,000-seat venue. The Lubert Family Welcome Center will be named after the trustee emeritus and longtime university member Ira Lubert. He and his wife, Pam Estadt, made a $10 million gift to support the planned center. When sharing details about the renovation work, which will start after this season and should be complete before the 2027 season, athletic director Pat Kraft and others focused on what the welcome center would mean to football fans, the student body, and alumni. It emphasized its importance again while announcing the gift.
“The Lubert Family Welcome Center will dramatically expand the University’s capacity for offering a complete campus visit experiences to thousands of students and families every year,” a news release says. “With space for organizing and orienting campus tours, offering individualized visit experiences and presenting interactive exhibits about the University’s strengths, the center will place Penn State in the forefront of higher education nationwide. In addition to its role in the pre-admissions experience, the Lubert Family Welcome Center will provide a year-round hub for campus and community activities.”
More on the Lubert Family Welcome Center
A previous news release said the welcome center would be a “21,000-square-foot facility for events and many other uses, serve as a connection point for all in the community, and augment enrollment efforts for prospective students and future student-athletes.” Additional specifics beyond what was outlined above were not disclosed.
“Coming to Penn State set me on a path that has led to professional success and personal fulfillment. I am honored that the Lubert Family Welcome Center will offer a fresh, exciting first impression for future Penn Staters as they discover all that the University offers,” Lubert said in a news release.
Added Estadt:
“I’m proud that when they return to Beaver Stadium as alumni, they will come back to a place that bears Ira’s family name. The stadium renovations will help to keep Penn State Athletics and the Penn State community strong. We are glad to offer our support.”
