The offseason churn of the Penn State men’s basketball program continued into the weekend with the posting of a new university job listing. The program will need to replace strength coach Greg Goldin, who is joining Will Wade‘s new staff at N.C. State. The Nittany Lions’ job listing is for Director of Men’s Basketball Athletic Performance.

Goldin worked with Wade previously during the head coach’s previous stints at VCU (2015-2017) and LSU (2017-2022) before joining Mike Rhoades‘ staff at Penn State ahead of the 2023-24 season. Before his arrival to work wth the Nittany Lions, Goldin spent two years with the U.S. Navy Special Operations as a human performance manager.

Three out, one in

Along with Goldin’s exit, Penn State has also seen two other staffers leave the program this offseason. Jimmy Martelli, one of Rhoades’ bench assistants for the past two seasons after coming over as director of basketball operations from VCU, went back to VCU to join his brother, Phil Martelli Jr., and his new staff with the Rams. Brandon Rozzell, the Nittany Lions’ Director of Recruiting for men’s basketball for the past two seasons, is also returning to his alma mater at VCU.

So far, Penn State has publicly filled one of the vacancies with one splash hire. This week the Nittany Lions’ all-time scoring leader, Talor Battle, was announced as returning to the program on Rhoades’ staff. He spent the past four seasons at Northwestern and Ohio State as an assistant coach.

“We are thrilled to welcome Talor and his family back to Happy Valley,” said Rhoades via press release this week. “One of the all-time great Nittany Lions, Talor’s passion and appreciation for Penn State, this program and this community are unmatched. He knows the Big Ten in-and-out and his experience as both a player and coach in this conference will be highly beneficial. I have no doubt he will serve as a great leader for our players.”
