Penn State’s foray into the Transfer Portal has netted a commitment from former Ohio State wide receiver Julian Fleming so far, but the Nittany Lions could be on the verge of adding another. As the visit window for potential spring enrollees opens up this week, the Nittany Lions are back at it.

I’ve gone ahead with a pick on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine in favor of the Nittany Lions for former Georgia cornerback A.J. Harris. The sophomore-to-be took an official visit to Happy Valley starting on Wednesday. We’re expecting a decision from Harris shortly. Auburn and Kentucky are among the others that have been mentioned in this recruitment.

The Nittany Lions have been involved, or at least trying to get into the mix, with Harris since he went into the Transfer Portal on Dec. 15. Cornerbacks coach Terry Smith is leading the charge for Penn State.

There’s a prior relationship there, as Smith offered Harris out of high school in the Class of 2023. The Phenix City (Ala.) Central product was a high school teammate of former Penn State commit TJ Parker, who ended up at Clemson. Former Central cornerback Christian Campbell played for Smith before being drafted in the sixth round in 2018.

The 6-foot-1, 187-pound Harris played in seven games for Georgia this season as a true freshman, totaling eight tackles. Prior to enrolling at Georgia, AJ Harris was a four-star prospect and the No. 39 overall recruit in the nation in the 2023 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He also checked in as the No. 3 cornerback in the class and the No. 5 overall player in the state of Alabama

Track Penn State transfer portal activity

The NCAA transfer portal database is private. But Blue-White Illustrated and the On3 Network have you covered from start to finish when it comes to tracking Penn State player movement.

Our well-established network of reporters and contacts across college athletics keeps you up to speed in several ways. We have articles written about players as they enter and exit the transfer portal or find their new destination, a dedicated transfer portal Twitter accountand the On3 Transfer Portalwire.

The transfer portal wire provides a real-time feed of player activity, including basic player profile information, transfer portal ranking, and original On3 Consensus recruiting ranking, as well as NIL valuation (name, image, and likeness).

While the transfer portal officially opens for business on Dec. 4 for undergraduate players, grad transfers can enter it at any time. This specific transfer portal window runs through Jan. 2, 2024. It is important to note that a player does not need to make his decision by the deadline. Undergrads do, however, have to declare their intent to enter the portal by then. When they pick their next school or decide to return to their current one after that is up to them. A second transfer portal window will run April 15-30.
