Offseason overview: How a change in scheme can unlock the Penn State safeties

The Penn State defense will undergo some changes no matter how seamlessly it tries to make the transition from Manny Diaz to Tom Allen as defensive coordinator. Franklin went out of the house and selected Allen to bring his unique style into the program and let him build a defense in his image.  As much as I love the process and sticking to the theme of these articles, there’s no reason to let it get in the way of a good conversation. So today, we’ll be discussing the differences in the scheme and how that could produce more interceptions for the Penn State defense in 2024. We will discuss some broad football theories and then give some data to back up those conclusions.
